Benefactors

The initial collection of the Museum of African Art was based on a gift to the City of Belgrade by Veda and Dr Zdravko Pečar back in 1974. Founded on a collection of objects predominantly from West Africa, Belgrade’s Museum of African Art developed throughout the years a rich artistic and educational practice. Following this first “large donation” made by the Pečar family, a number of other contributions ensued. Thus the museum has managed not only to enlarge its collections and broaden the field of work for its curators, but also to secure the cultural heritage of the City of Belgrade for future generations. Through the donations of both single objects and entire collections, made by individuals and families, the Museum is now able to research and present collections of Ethiopian art and the art of Central Africa, as well artefacts from Cameron, Congo, Egypt and Algeria.
