Practicum for Students

Students thematic guided tours through the permanent display

"Star of Belgrade 2018" award

"Practicum 2018" – the program for final year students of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade received the "Star of Belgrade 2018" award. The honour was given by the Youth Office – City of Belgrade for best projects supported by official competitions of the City Administration Administrative Units.

Dragana Belojević, the City of Belgrade Secretary for Sport and Youth, presented the award to Marija Aleksic, director of the Museum of African Art on March 6, 2019, in the Old Palace of Serbia Hall.

In cooperation with the Centre for Career Development of the Faculty of Philosophy – Belgrade University, the Museum of African Art organises an annual programme for final year students of the Faculty of Philosophy (students from all departments are eligible to apply).

The practical curatorial course was conceived by Ivana Vojt and Emilia Epštajn (MAA curators, art historians and anthropologists, respectively) in the hopes of offering future young professionals the possibility of learning about the skills, techniques and knowledge required by the curator’s profession.

One of the distinctive traits this programme has to offer is motivating the students to create each their own tailored, thematic tour of the permanent display and the means to do so, which include thorough theoretical scrutiny as well as placing emphasis on the process of conducting a presentation and public speaking.

The learning and training course starts annually in the month of March and is finished by May, and this is followed by students guiding tours in the MAA until the end of the (programme) year.
