AFRIČKI MURALI
30. mart u 18h, Studentski kulturni centar, Kralja Milana 48

- public lecture –
AFRICAN MURALS
30. March at 18h, Studentski kulturni centar, Kralja Milana 48
by Nataša Njegovanović-Ristić, senior curator, The Museum of African Art in Belgrade

The vast area of fine art creativity among the communities south of the Sahara – the MURALS – had its beginnings in the cave paintings and the body art. Having in mind that both of these fine art disciplines – the murals and body art – took root and developed in specific social and religious background, their perceptual domain was present in the micro surroundings. The same surroundings made certain analogies possible, in terms of procedure of choice, as well as in the making of the artwork, which led to, consequently, the analogous result. No matter is the human body or the wall of the house the surface, the artist had the same approach and wish to make his ‘canvases’ more beautiful and different from the existing artworks, taking care of the physical shape or the architectural form in question. The greatest similarity could be noticed in the choice of geometrical, floral and ornamental motifs, identically conducted in decoration and colour, as well as in the art writing.
The lecture will be held in Serbian language. Entrance is free of charge.
